Mereka pun mencoba merekayasa tubuh dan wajahnya dari struktur tulangnya -yang keliatannya masih sangat baik - and they did it!! *even I dont really thrust it hehe* mereka juga menebak bahwa gadis ini adalah pengabdi di keluarga besar, yang pada jaman itu, jika majikan meninggal, sang abdi pun ikut dikubur *tragis sekali..* but it`s great that they really try to learn history from these bones, and try to remake the face, the body, and the whole story behind!

6th-Century Gaya Girl 'Resurrected'

This model of a 6th-century servant girl of Gaya Kingdom (42-562) was constructed based on the bones excavated in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang Province. The Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, which created the model, will show it to the public at the National Palace Museum of Korea, Seoul, from Nov. 25 to 29, and then at Changnyeong Museum, South Gyeongsang Province, from Dec. 1 to 6. / Korea Times

A life-size model of a young girl from the 6th-century Gaya Kingdom (42-562) was revealed in Seoul, Wednesday. The model, constructed from the ``1,500-year-old's'' excavated skeletal remains, is the first of its kind in the country.

``We have excavated human bones on many occasions but it is the first time we created a full-scale model,'' Kang Soon-hyung, director of the Gaya National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, was quoted as saying by the Munhwa Ilbo.

The girl, who was buried alive, is speculated to have been a 16-year-old servant to a powerful family. After adding layers of muscle and skin as well locks of hair, the model stands 1.53 meters tall. She is relatively short but is slim and has a small face ― a beauty by modern standards.

Her remains were among those of four people that were unearthed during the institute's excavation project in Songhyeong-dong, Changnyeong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, between 2006 and 2007. A study on Gaya's custom of burying the living with the dead will soon be published, the institute said.

The life-size model marks the highlight of the study, in that it allows a scientific and realistic restoration of an ancient Korean. She had a short jawbone and thus had a rather wide face but had a long neck; she had short arms but long fingers and toes. She was very slim, with a waist measuring 21.5 inches, compared to the modern average of 26 inches. The upper half of her body was large compared to her lower half. It is also speculated that she knelt on her knees frequently.

The project was carried out by sculptor-anatomy specialist Kim Byung-ha and CELL, a firm that was in charge of costumes for major films such as ``Thirst'' by Park Chan-wook and ``Mother'' by Bong Joon-ho.

The model will be displayed at the National Palace Museum of Korea, Seoul, from Nov. 25 to 29, and then at Changnyeong Museum, South Gyeongsang Province, from Dec. 1 to 6.

Water Cycle diagram - for kids!

From USGS (United State Geological Survey)

The Water Cycle—For Kids

The water cycle is vitally important for every person in the world—from a great grandmother in Nepal to a newborn crying in his crib in Omaha, Nebraska (and to YOU, too). The water cycle is a basic scientific concept that is taught even in elementary schools and is one of the first environmental concepts that children learn. Although the great grandmother might understand our main water-cycle diagram, it might be a bit too complex for young children.

So, if you're trying to find a simpler diagram of the water cycle, we have just what you are looking for. A company called The Straight Edge has produced a waterproof place mat about the water cycle (a description is at http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=SEI1330/309.0.8548.0.0.0.0); one that is meant for young children. If you have a young child at your house or in your class, just think—you can teach them about the water cycle as you are wiping up the spilled juice (which is, of course, mostly water) from this place mat. After all, juice running over the place mat can be considered runoff; if it spills on the floor, that would be freshwater storage (lake); and, if you are outside, the juice soaking into the ground is like infiltration. And, if the juice gets all over their clothes? Now, that is just a big mess, but it does provide an excellent example of capillary action!

A research by Christein Meindertsma: pig 05049: hundreds of item made from pig

PIG 05049, a conversation with Christien Meindertsma

Christien Meindertsma is a designer with an investigative mind. She analyzes, surveys and in her latest project she went as far as dissecting a pig.

Over three years, the designer tracked the products made from parts or even tiny particles of pigs. Her quest led her to a tattoo artist, dentist, farmer and weapon specialist. She discovered that the skin, bones, meat, organs, blood, fat, brains, hoofs, hair and tail of the pig are used in no fewer than 187 products: shampoo, medicine, munitions, cardiac valves, matches, desserts and bubblegum, beer and lemonade, car paint and brake discs, pills, bread, etc.

After slaughter, bits and pieces of the Dutch pig travel around the world. Gelatin from its skin ends up in liquorices and gums, and even cheesecake and tiramisu. In the weapon industry the gelatin is used as conductor for bullets. Pork fat is one of the ingredients of, amongst others, anti-wrinkle cream and shampoo, information that producers are not too keen on admitting. The glue made from pig bones makes matches sturdier and porcelain is manufactured from its ashes. Protein from pig's hair contributes to making bread soft. Every part of a pig is either eaten or processed. Should anything be left over, it is converted into green electric power. She documented her findings in the book PIG 05049 (amazon UK and USA).
